STEVE NORDRUM NAMED
SNOW BASE DIRECTOR
By Rob Schultz
Steve Nordrum, a long-time Tomahawk staff member and Indianhead Council
employee, has been selected to serve as Camp Director of the 1997 Snow Base
season. Nordrum, who formerly directed the Spearhead program, is excited and
ready to begin preparations for the upcoming winter camp season.
Until now, the Snow Base Director position has been a part-time, seasonal
position involving a volunteer committment prior to the camp season. During
the 1996 winter camp season, the position was divided between two
co-directors in an attempt to meet an increasing work load. However, because
of the intense growth of the program over the past several years, the
position has now been expanded to a ten-month, full-time position.
Nordrum brings many skills and talents to the Snow Base program, including a
strong awareness of both current and future program needs, many years
experience in outdoor winter camping at Tomahawk, an existing relationship
with the current Snow Base staff and Campmasters, and previous professional
experience with Indianhead Council.
Presently, Nordrum is finishing college study at Metro State University. He
has postponed a college study trip to Central America this winter to focus
his time and energy on Snow Base.
Nordrum has announced that Amy Rahm, a 1996 Snow Huskies staff member, will
serve as a co-director of the Snow Huskies Program. A second Snow Huskies
co-director is expected to be named within the upcoming week. Rahm is
currently a college student in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. She plans to transfer
to the University of Minnesota in December to continue college studies.
The Snow Base telephone extension at the Indianhead Council office has been
temporarily removed. A new telephone extension will be assigned this fall
for contacting Steve Nordrum or the Snow Huskies Co-Directors. Until then,
persons with questions regarding Snow Base should contact either Jeff
Sulzbach (ext. 136) or Barb Newman (ext. 153) at the Indianhead Council Scout
Service Center - (612)224-1891.
Watch the November/December edition of SCOUTING Magazine for an in-depth
story and photos on the Tomahawk Snow Base Program. The article was written
by Terry Wolkerstorfer of St. Paul, MN, during the past winter camp season.
Reservations for Snow Base will begin being accepted in the weeks ahead.
Early reservations are recommended this year as there are limited spaces and
high demands for the upcoming winter camp season. 1997 camp brochures are
now available by calling the Indianhead Council (612-224-1891) and asking for
Barb Newman (ext. 153) or the reservations desk.
