I've generally been in favor of the ACLU's activities, even when they
have gone against my personal beliefs. However, this is a different
avenue than the ACLU has usually taken. It seems that now that
they have lost in court, they are starting a letter writing campaign.
Bert's point is well taken. All units should make sure they
build a relationship with their sponsoring institution. I am
organizing a Troop at the Park District that sponsors my Pack
(who, coincidentally, would be a target of this ACLU campaign), and
one of the reasons that I believe that I'll be successful is that
I've been building our relationship with them for the last 3 years.
This includes doing a service project for them each year, and
preparing and presenting an annual report to the Board of
Commissioners each year. It really helps.
