Remington Tents

Has anyone else on this list had experience with Remington tents?
I just came back from a Scout trip to the Czech Republic. We had brought
along six of the Remington 14x10 ft. two-room, Chalet cabin tents with us.
I was less than impressed with their performance.
Although they are very nice looking, big tents, they leaked like a sieve;
except for the floor, which kept in every last drop of water. It also
didn't help that we had unseasonably wet weather with rain virtually every
day for two weeks while we were camping. One day we took out over two
gallons of water from one tent.
The main problem was that the tents were not water proofed at the factory
and they only came with one small tube of seam sealer; yet, by my estimate,
each tent had about 200 ft. of double seams. We also did not realize until
later that the most important seam to seal was not on the top or sides as
you would expect but on the bottom, at the stress points where the stakes
are. Water would run down the tent sides to these points then flow through
the seam right into the bottom of the tent.
The tents leaked so bad that I felt embarrassed giving them to our Czech
hosts. Needless to say, I have written the manufacturer.
Even with the tent problems, we still had a great time; cooking over a wood
stove, heating wash water with a wood-fired boiler, campfires at night,
hikes through woods, biking through the countryside, train rides to nearby
cities, bus trips to castles, homestays, games in camp, and much, much more.
If you have never taken a Scout group to camp with Scouts in another
country, do it. It's great fun, both for the Scouts and for the leaders.
This trip was three years in the planning, and well worth every minute of
it.
