Make sure you do your research first. On a district and council
level, the professionals will fight tooth and nail not to lose a
unit. They are judged on numbers, and the number of units in a
district is a criteria toward Quality District.

Therefore, do some checking. I doubt very seriously that your unitl
will be allowed to simply merge with the distressed unit without a
fight. If that were to happen, there would be one less unit.
Professionals do not like to say the words "one less".

As an Assistant District Commissioner, I do not agree with the
practice of keeping a unit going just for the sake of having one more
unit. I strongly feel that we should focus on quality, and if we
have quality, quantity will follow. I go round and round with our DE
on this issue at least two or three times a year.

Aside from the above, my suggestion would be to move to the church
two miles away and let them charter you. They sound like they are
looking for a Troop and seem to be very supportive. That will go a
long way. I really do not feel that distance and location is as big
of an issue on the Troop level as it is on the Pack level. Focus on
your program. If you have a good program, you will have boys!

Best of luck to you!
