Another Injured Scout

CHUCK BRAMLET (chuckb@AZTEC.ASU.EDU)
Sun, 23 Jun 1996 00:13:33 -0700

I have been a bit remiss, in that I thought about posting this some
time ago and did not get it done. The fact that no one else from this
area has posted it either rather surprises me.

Here's the scoop:

16 year old Life Scout Corbin Clauer was accidentally shot after an
outing at the local shooting range on June 1st. To date, he has had
4 major surgeries and used over 70 units of blood.

The exact details are not being released, at least that I have seen,
but the shooting happened after an Eagle project to help refurbish
several pieces of equipment at the range. After the project was
completed, some of the Scouts were allowed to shoot for about an
hour. I have no idea how he was shot, or what the circumstances were,
other than: 1.) the SE for our Council, Earl "Sonny" Hayes, is quoted
as calling it "a tragic accident, a sad incident." and 2.) The boys
involved believed the gun was not loaded.

Also, according to reports, the bullet went downward from his chest to
his abdomen, causing "extensive" internal injuries and the removal of
his gall bladder and a portion of his liver.

Two Blood Drives are to be held on Sunday, June 23, to help replenish
blood that Corbin has used, as well as to try to build up supplies.
I understand that another one is planned.

I am not involved with the family, and don't know anything else about
it, so _please_ don't ask me for more information. Any inquiries
should be directed to the office of the Grand Canyon Council, at 2929
N. Greenfeild Rd., Phoenix, Az, 85016-7715.

YiS,

Chuck Bramlet, ASM Troop 323
