Baden-Powell on the World Wide Web

I am pleased to announce the addition of several new pages to the Pine Tree Web:

Excerpts from Books by Baden-Powell.

Baden-Powell was a prolific writer. While many of his books are out of
print, his Scouting for Boys has been available since 1908, and Aids to
Scoutmastership has been reprinted frequently since 1920. Over the years, I
have read and enjoyed many of B-P's books--his autobiographical works, tales
of his travels, his military experiences and the early days of Scouting.

Lessons from the Varsity of Life, 1933
"Lessons from the Varsity of Life" is Baden-Powell's most complete
autobiographical account. Here he presents interesting and enjoyable
stories of his "two lives" in Soldiering and in Scouting. The inroduction
gives his own brief overview of his "two lives." Chapter IV. "Spying and
Scouting," presents a collection of adventures from his early years in the
British Army.

What Scouts Can Do: More Yarns, 1921
"What Scouts Can Do: More Yarns" is one of several books of "yarns" --
stories about subjects he thought would be of interest to Scouts. It was
first published in 1921 and reprinted a number of times. It was one of B-P's
more popular books. Here are some yarns from Chapter VII. He talks about the
techniques of stalking, the Scout's staff, and the "Thanks Badge,"
surprisingly in the form of a swastika.

Other excerpts from Baden-Powell on the Pine Tree Web
Baden-Powell always tried to provide youth with guidance on living life to
its full. Success and Happiness were two important elements he described in
Rovering to Success

Baden-Powell traveled widely. He enjoyed the open road and had a keen sense
of adventure. In his book, What Scouts Can Do: More Yarns, he says "I want
every Scout to be happy, and one of the best ways I know of being happy is
to go for a good bike ride. In Biking in Bosnia he provides a fascinating
picture of this war-torn land before the two World Wars.

Other links to Baden-Powell
"Sir Robert Baden-Powell, Chief Scout of the World" is a Home Page for the
Founder, including links to other sites of interest on B-P's life and work.

I hope you will find these new pages of interest. I was delighted to see my

for your continued interest. Your comments, suggestions and criticisms are
welcome.
