George, If you have the committment and are convinced that you can make the
difference, GO FOR IT. From your description, your fellow troop members have
not yet caught up to your level of maturity. But, get some help - if there
is a sympathetic adult leader in your troop, enlist his/her help.
Others have encouraged "abandoning ship" rather than deal with the existing
leadership. Certainly, each one must decide on a level of committment and
the worth of working for reform for themselves. Troops change with the
character of the leadership and often, if one has the ability and
committment, improvements can be made.
My point is - before you walk away, make a conscious decision about the
difference your contribution may make. YiS
