G'day All,
> In a lifetime of Scouting, the high points always blow away
>the mundane. Such a high point has occurred in our troop for the
>second time in my tenure, and I'm awed by the event !
It was while reading this that I remebered that I has yet to post about
Rebecca, a 8 year old Cub here in Adelaide, South Australia.
In November 1995 (last year) Mrs Stevens was running a Bath for her
children, Rebecca then 7, Gabrielle 5, and Peter 1. While running this bath,
Mrs Stevens suffered a epileptic seizure and upon blacking out, fell face
first into the bath with the water still running.
Rebecca who had been playing outside at the time, came back into the house
and saw her mother face down into the water with the water still running.
Rebecca then went into the bathroom and turned of the water and tryed to
drag her mum out of the bath. When this didnt work, Rebecca pulled the plug
and the water drained out of the bath.
After the water had drained, Rebecca tryed to do Muth to Mouth as she was
saw the previous week at at Joey Scout meeting. However, there was still no
response.
She then ran next door for help and the ambulance was called and her mum was
taken to hospital. Mrs Steven was there for 3 days recovering.
Rebecca at the time of this was 7 years old and has since turned 8 and
become a Cub Scout.
The award was presneted to Rebecca at the annual Act of Loyalty where Queen
Scouts/Queen Guide VCertificates and Leader Certificates are presneted.
The applause this Young Girl recived from members of both organizations here
(we have mixed scouting as well as Girl Guides here) The applause Rebecca
recived from both organizations was overwheleming and certainly the most
anyone recived all day. I over heard several Joey and Gumnut leaders say
that they were now convinced that they should include first aid in their
programs.....
Rebecca now has a nice badge she can wear on her Cub Scout Uniform and would
make any parent and Leader proud. I met Rebecca after the event and she is a
truly wonderful child...also one of the biggest tomboys I have ever met....
The story of Rebecca and what she did was reported in the Advertiser,
Adelaide's daily paper here.
I just had to tell everyone as I read of the 20 year old and thought that
everyone would like to know of 8 year old Rebecca....
