Current and Future Philmont Res.

1) As for Philmont allowing those who didn't get into '97 res. to reserve
for '98 ... Where does it stop... soon '98 will be filled and then will
they allow '99... I guess we should reserve today for the year 2000 or
even further... Adds a new meaning to planning ahead... Granted the
current system isn't the greatest, and it does become time consuming,
but what else can you do when there is only so many slots, only so many
camps/programs... and all those troops...
I would not want to see Philmont allow for reservations 2 or more years in
advance beyond what they do now. It will make it so much more difficult
for a troop to plan a trek to Philmont... They'd have to guess at having
the interest in the boys for 2-3 yrs away... tough call!

2) I do not know what (if any) special priorities are in place for council
contingents... but our council has gone to Philmont every other year now
for many many years... they generally get the dates they want, although they
are very flexible with the dates (maybe that helps).
I am this years Philmont Trek Advisor; we have 3 crews going... Our
Council's Camping Director made the reservations last year, as he has done
for the past 10 or so years.
We had our Philmont mtg last Monday and all the boys have picked out their
(hopeful) treks ... I'm really looking forward to this. Never been there.
It all so very exciting... Can't wait...

Anybody going to Philmont this year - July 25 ... that is our date.
Leaving NY July 23, to Col. Springs... doing some stuff for a couple of
days, then to philmont... after that we're doing a rafting trip one day and
then back to NY...

YiS!
