Re: ADD/Ritalin

After reading all your posts on ADD, I'm wondering if my own child has that
same problem. He six and has always been highstrung, but now that he's in
first grade and has to try to learn to read, he's having a very hard time of
it. I know his processing of words is off. I try and try with him and
siometimes he can't remember the next day. He has periods of hyper behavior
but not every day, certain things can set him off. Like other misbahavring
children. He hits and pokes his sister, can't be near her without fighting
or controlling the situation. She's older and wiser so he has to be quite
loud to win. He squirms and scratches hisself, but at other times is
interested and quiite.
I want to think he is normal, and work with him, but I don't want him to be
behind in reading the most important thing in his life as far as school goes.
He got an interim yesterday from his P.E. teacher, 1st grade, saying he
cannot listen and will not actively participate in his exercises. I know he
feels its a time to play and wants to get at it.
What's a mother to do?

Advice?

Sharon
