Re: About the youngsters...

Joanne R. Merrill (jmerrill@NORFOLK.INFI.NET)

Hi Martijn,

My name is Joanne. I have been involved (along with my husband) in two
youth groups here in the U.S. Our twins were in Camp Fire when they were 5
and 6 years old. Then they switched to Cub Scouts and Brownie (Girl Scouts)
in the second grade at 7 yrs. old. At the time, Cub Scouts started for boys
in the second grade or who were 8 years old. Girl Scouting had a level
called Daisies for 5 year olds in kindergarten. BSA had just deveoped Tiger
Cubs for boys in first grade or who were 7 years old, but they meet once a
month instead of weekly.

Tiger Cubs is not based on any story. Cub Scouting is based on the Jungle
Book, Webelos Scouts (4th and 5th grade boys) is based on American Indians,
and Boy Scouting (grades 6 and up to age 18) is based on England's program,
helping the boys experience career paths and life skills.

I hope this helps.
