Dear Crazy,
No you are not. As a parent in scouting (boys) I will tell you that =
many time
scouting misses the mark.
I used to be a girl scout, and we never went shopping. What does =
shopping have to do with anything? That's an everyday acitivity that =
they could do on there own. And yes I agree that the amount should be =
set and $20.00 is even excessive. The point of your trip was not to =
buy anything but to comparison shop. Other than some lunch money they =
didn't really need to bring anything. I find it to be very sad that we =
have become such a consumer driven society. Those parents who condone =
such behaviour in their daughter
are themselves too obsessed with consumerism and having to buy. =20
It sounds like you are a person who would truly like to teach the =
girls some of life's lessons, it sounds like you are also outnumbered. =
Try this lesson on
for grabs:
Give each girl a notebook or a 5 x 7 index card. Give them =
say a $1,000.00 "credit card" and tell them they have to do the =
following:
1) buy on- sale items, keep track of retail vs. the sale price how =
much did they save?
or 2) buy whatever they want, keep a list, how much value did the =
items have
to them. What did they buy? Why
3) Have them read the book "Your Money or Your LIfe" (have =
their parents read it too) How much value do =
they place on their time and life?
You will notice none of this required MONEY! =20
Can you tell that I am a philosopher of sorts who believes in teaching =
children the value of a dollar, and labor ( especially when that labor =
is MINE!)
Good Luck MS. CRAZY I wish you and your girls well.
