I also have fairly recently taken Scoutmaster Fundamentals, and I followed
it up with Woodbadge and served as staff for a Scoutmaster Fundamentals
course as part of my Ticket. I am also registered in three councils,
Susquehanna ASM T304, Chester County ASM T100, and Columbia Montour UC (all
PA). The idea of patrol camping was discussed as an excellant proceedure.
However, the idea of camping without supervision never came up. I think,
this was because of the EXTREME emphasis placed on all these courses about 2
deep leadership. It was emphasized that Scoutmaster Conferences should be
held where other people can see you due to this policy. If you talk to your
Chief Scout Exec. I am sure he will immediatly tell you that unsupervised
camping is against policy, and he may check into what was discussed at the
course to make sure that that was emphasized. Check with him!! If other
people got the same idea it could really cause problems. If you are worried
about insurance it is also a good idea to designate a uniform of the day for
traveling to activities. A Troop T-shirt and Jeans can be the uniform of the
day. But a uniformed scout is COVERED.
