Re: Adult membership & hazing

Hello all,
Since someone noted the lack of female response to the spousal abuse
issue, here's my 2 cents. IMHO, if this person cared about the Scouting
program he would have taken a leave of absence until his personal situation
was resolved. His actions at camp alone are grounds for him to be asked to
step down for his various positions.
As a woman in the BSA I have learned that sometimes it is necessary to
sit back and weigh my words carefully before proceeding. During SMF I was
the only person asked to tie knots behind my back (hazing? sexual
harassment?) YTP training turned into how the woman should proceed to act in
the company of young men.
My whole position on this was, OK, these people don't know me and when
they get to know me the fact that I'm a woman won't matter. I don't want to
get anything started about women in the BSA just trying to let you know that
I feel sometimes looking at things with the gender of the speaker involved
can overshadow the real issues.
