This is a problem? This is "a consummation devoutly to be wished"! We
have had this 'problem' on occasion in our troop. First off, do not view
this as a problem, but as an opportunity.
No problem with transportation, right? And after a few outing, you sidle
up to the adults and say, "As long as you're coming to the campouts
anyway, why not do so in an official capacity, and sign on as an ASM?
Just take the next Scoutmaster Fundamentals course, offered twice
annually by our District, and fill out this application. After all, if
you have the name, you might as well have the game, right?"
The problem you face right now, is interference with the scouts. Also an
easy solution. In our troop, all adults camp separately from the scouts,
and cook separately. The scouts still operate on the patrol method, and
so do the adults (the ASMs belong to the Rocking Chair Patrol, and have
their own patch). Finally, we have a ScoutMaster-In-Charge (SMIC) for
every event, and he is SM for the event, and the only one empowered to
interact with the scouts. Keep that picture in mind: adults at one
campsite, scouts by patrol in another, and the SMIC as bridge.
Try it. You do not have a problem, but an undeveloped asset-
