To All,
The welcoming letter requests a short self introduction when subscribing
to the Scouts L list so here it is.
My Name is Al Sharp and I have been active in Scouting as an adult for
the last 10 years. Out troop, 986 in Littleton Colorado, consists of
about 30 to 40 boys and 10-15 active adults. We are a relatively young
troop (10 years) but have been pretty successful in keeping the "outing
in Scouting", we go camping at least once every month. For most of this
time, I have been the assistant scoutmaster known as "the outdoor guy"
The first time we had a planning meeting, the new scoutmaster looked at
me and said, " Al, you used to live in the mountains. Know some good
places to take the boys?" Ever since I've been fortunate to be able to
help with a program that gets us all camping every month of the year. It
has been especially fun to have to keep coming up with new trip
suggestions for out PLC. ( this way I get to go twice- once to scout it
out and once with the troop)
Other than troop activities, I've been involved at various times as an
advisor and instructor with our council's "high adventure" and C.O.P.E.
programs based out of camp Tahosa (located just outside the eastern
boundary of the "Indian Peaks Wilderness Area" above Boulder).
Business has kept me pretty busy the last two or three years and I
haven't been able to keep up with that part of Colorado Scouting.
I'm the proud father of two scouts. The oldest, now 21 and a senior in
college, was one of our troops original group of Eagles, His brother (15
and panting to be 16 and able to drive) is well on his way. Scouting is
one of the most important parts of our family activity. The boy's mom (
my wonderful wife of 26 years) hikes and climbs and camps with us all
year round. . I'm on AOL as Al3924 and on Compuserve 72164,3541. Thanks
for having this forum for scouting. Al Sharp 9/7/95
