We're, I suppose, midway into the thread for girls in BSA. Many of the
comments seem, to me, to be of the "girls have cooties" variety of misogyny.
Other reasons given for not wanting girls in BSA are the issues of sexual
experimentation on overnight outings and boys learning better without
girls around. Does anyone have any data concerning either of these
issues? How do the other scouting associations deal with the issue of
sexual experimentation in mixed gender groups? Is this a real problem,
or just our over active adult imaginations?

BSA now has women as adult leaders. I suspect it is just a matter of
time before it invites girls to join the program, too. Shortly
thereafter, GSUSA will fold (for lack of interest).

Now, to the other G. If gender isn't an issue (any more) for our adult
leaders, then why does sexual orientation remain an issue? Are we still
assuming that having a homosexual orientation is equivalent to being a
pedophile? If so, is this assumption valid? If not, then perhaps its
time we admit that some of our assumptions are merely prejudices and move
beyond them.

All opinions not "borrowed" from unattributed sources are my own.
