Blackeagle Services - BEWARE!!

Kim Hannemann MPSVP 80167 (KHANNEMANN@WORLDBANK.ORG)
Tue, 22 Aug 1995 18:55:10 -0500

Most of you on Scouts-L and rec.scouting are familiar with Mike Walton, who
signs his correspondence "Settummanque!" and ends each note with a lengthy .sig
incorporating an ad for Blackeagle Services, apparently his own company. About
6 months ago, Mr. Walton offered up his compendium of Eagletips - available in
several volumes from the Scouts-L listserv - in preprinted form. I quote his
note:

"To order, send an electronic mail message to RYANJA@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU,
with the subject ="Blackeagle Services - EAGLETIPS ORDER" in the
subject line. You will recieve an invoice for the amount and items
ordered. When we have recieved payment for the item(s), they will be
sent via USPS mail immediately that evening. We will also send an
notice of shipment to your email address that same evening. Please
let us know that you have received the item(s)."

I ordered right away, and after some discussion of how he was to
get my address (I thought he would invoice by Email, which he did
eventually) I sent him a check on May 23. It cleared my bank on May
30 - not much delay there, by golly! But his promise of sending by
mail immediately (reiterated in his EM invoice dated May 8) was
not fulfilled.

And despite several promises by him, the last on July 24, it still has not
arrived. He has not answered my last message, sent over two weeks ago, at all,
and only answered the previous two queries by murky references in general
Scouts-L/rec.scouting notes. Here is the last one I saw:

>Date: Mon, 24 Jul 1995 20:59:42 CDT
>From: "Settummanque, the blackeagle" <waltoml@WKUVX1.WKU.EDU>
>Subject: Games @ Summer Camp
>
"My most fondest memories of summer camps, either on staff or as a
participant, is the all-night UNO card games played two or three days
. . . .

"I'll be out at Fort Campbell, working with my active duty counterpart
this and next week, so I don't know if I can get back here each
evening as I've planned to read and answer my mail. I talk tomorrow
with the folks at Austin Peay State University about net access (if
anyone knows of someone there I should talk with, please let me
know).

"In the meantime, I've given "instructions" (I've asked politely, that
is; one NEVER ORDERS a newlywed to do anything if they want to see
the
first wedding annisversary!) to Jessica. Seems that I've still got
two orders outstanding and I've corrected those this evening, so that
when I get back here, I don't have to worry too much about catching
up. Both Kim and Jesse have been patiently waiting for their
things,
and I've FINALLY got them both to the mailstop!
. . . "

Settummanque!

Settummanque, the blackeagle... (MAJ) Mike L. Walton (
              co-Owner, Blackeagle Services ___)_
  (h) 502-782-7992 (f) 502-781-7279 (w) 502-782-7467 |-=-|]

He has recently complained about getting ripped off in some patch deal - well, he has had my $25 for three months and despite my requests he will neither send what he promised nor return my money.

If you like his Scouting advice, fine . . . but be warned, DO MOT DO BUSINESS WITH HIM. His 17 or 19 or however many scouting service and award ribbons are apparently not worth the cloth they are embroidered on.

When I last wrote to him two weeks ago I pleaded with him not to make me do this, but as I said, he has not bothered to respond. It's not like he doesn't have time - he seems to have plenty of time to write notes on Scouts-L and rec.scouting about every subject that comes down the pike. Please take heed and ignore his "ad" or you'll be sorry too.
