Best suggestion I've seen is to use clear finger nail polish to cover the
spot caused be each of the chiggers. This will suffocate them and also
covers the burial site up (hee, hee!). Champho-Phoneque (??) also works
well to stop the itching.
As for a preventative, the best thing I know of (recommended by our family
doctor) is to use powdered sulfur that is available from most any drug
store. You sprinkle it around your socks and ankles and around the waist of
your pants and underware. The chiggers usually go for places where someone
has tight fitting clothes.
Good luck, it can be a lengthy process to stop the itching.
