Re: Parent Leaders with Scouts

I'm new around here, but I'd like to put my two cents in.
We have "No parents at <pick one> Cubs, Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Camp"
Yes, I am involved in any and all of the above. When parents are also leaders,
and/or staff at camp, it can be a real challenge to them, their children, and
the other adults. At the beginning of each year, and at the planning for
camp, we re-iterate "No parents allowed." When you are a leader, you are
responsible for a proportionate number of youth.
Our leaders do not discipline their own children, either. I find that I am
harder on my own children than I am on the others, not because I think them
superior in any way, but because I expect the same support for my efforts that
I give for their efforts. At meetings, and at camp, they call me Mrs. H., the
same as the other children do.
Perhaps the dads who are Eagle-wannabe's should be reminded (encouraged?)
to take some of the other youth under their wing, and nurture them in the same
way they are nurturing their own sons?
Just an opinion, and strictly my own.
