The rumors that Camp Sayre was sold to the MDC is true. I believe it was
either in the
Boston Globe or the Quincy (MA) Patriot Ledger a little over a month ago. I
can not recall all details, but part of the deal was that since it was sold
to the MDC, the land would continue to be used as conservation land for the
benefit of scouts, and the MDC can not sell parts or allow anything to be
built there.
The reasons for doing this was that the Minuteman Council did not want to go
the way of Old Colony Council who had to sell Camp Child in Plymouth to
prevent bankruptcy.
Some concerns stated in the paper were that the clauses for no building could
be used against the scouts if some of the structures that they have there
ever need to be replaced.
Our Pack uses Camp Sayre since it is only a few miles away, and I have not
heard any negative comments from our leaders.
