I guess I am all wet!

Hi all,
Several of you have sent me replies informing me (politely, I hasten
to point out) that, as I asked in my post on "when to award the badge"
of last Friday, I am in fact "all wet". Apparently most of you award
the cloth badges at the first meeting after the BOR, rather than
waiting until the COH.
My statement that boy scouts, as opposed to cubs, can wait til the COH
to receive their badges is based on what my current unit does. We are
apparently wrong to be doing this, as one of you cited me a reference
out of the scouting literature. As I told this correspondent, I have
fallen into the trap of actually believing that what our troop does is
correct! Fancy that....
Anyway, thanks for the correction.
I'm glad this was pointed out to me for other reasons besides
accuracy, however. I am pleased (I think) to announce that as of
tonight (if my meeting with the IC goes well) I am the new scoutmaster
of Troop 113, at Trinity Methodist Church, in Alexandria, VA. This
48-year old unit has been languishing without a SM for several months
now, and did not recharter on time. It folds on 7/31, with loss of
all that tenure, if it doesn't recharter by then.
I am an alumnus of this troop (61-65) and my father was SM for two
years, so when our DE asked me to salvage it, I thought about it
for--oh, it must have been a second and a half--and said "okay."
Well, wish me luck, and a prayer or two wouldn't hurt either, as there
is apparently a lot of work to do. Oh--I'll be sure and award badges
as soon as possible after they are earned, too.
