I case no-one has notice, we are have a bunch of email problems. The
root of the problems is that we upgraded the os of the vax machine that
handles most of our network traffic. The new version of the vax os
nolonger supports the hardware we use to connect the vax systems to our
ibm systems. We do not have a resolution yet.
In the mean time, I (we) have been trying to modify our setups to start
to use the ethernet/internet mail instead. I have also tried to
move files from the bitnet queues to our internet queues and have had
some limited success.
What does this mean to you??? Well if your are still receiving
scouts-l then your are probably ok. Try and NOT use the bitnet
addressing/gatewaying to access scouts-l ... it may be many days
before the messages get thru.
Finally, due to some "spoofing" of email subscriptions, I have modified
all our lists to require the "confirm" or "ok" option. What happens is
that when you first subscribe, the listserv will send you a note
requiring you to reply with the word "OK" to validate your subscription.
I'm afraid that due to the growth of the internet with all the "hacking"
going on, this may become a feature of most listserves.
YiS, Jon.
