Scouters in the Washington DC-Baltimore-Frederick MD area:
[Mike Meenehan's recent inquiry about Native American dancers may
have helped me notice a flier at a nature store today. It sounds
very interesting, and I'm passing it along to the group. I'm not a
source for additional information (see below), but let me know if you
want me to mail you a copy of the flier.]
The American Indian Society of Washington DC will be holding its 29th
Anniversary Celebration Pow Wow on July 29-30 at the Urbana Fire
Station in Urbana MD (near Frederick: Exit 26 off I-270). The theme
is "Celebrating our Indian ways with our Families and Friends." The
Master of Ceremonies, Head Dancers, and Lead Singers, are Cheyenne,
Navajo, Kiowa/Pawnee, Comanche/Choctaw, and Crow/Kiowa. Absolutely
no Drugs or Alcohol. Times on both Saturday and Sunday are from
12:00 noon to 6:00 pm. Donations: Adults $5.00, Seniors and Kids
(6-13) $2.00.
There will also be a 10K and 5K Run, and a 5K Walk, all to benefit
the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS), on
Saturday, July 29. Entry fee is $10.
Lastly, there's a big dance contest -- all dancers must be in full
regalia to register. Lots of categories, from Men and Women 18 years
and older, down to "Tiny Tots" (5 and under).
Additional info is available from the Pow Wow Chairman, phone (703)
