A young boyscout died in an accident during a tug of war!
During a tug of war with about 600 scouts in a Scoutcamp here in
Westernohe, the headquarter of the german catholic scout association DPSG,
died a 10 years old boyscout. About 30 other scouts were seriously
injured.
300 people at each end of the rope had drawn when the rope suddenly ripped
in two. The boy died some minutes after the accident. He was slayed by the
rope. Eight other scouts were injured so seriously that they still stay in
hospital. Many of them lost fingers, cut off by the rope or had serious
burns. 40 other scouts were injured not that badly.
The 600 people tried to break a record and to get into the Guiness Book of
Records.
If been in a Scoutcamp of the district Duesseldorf with 300 scouts this
weekend when we heard about that tragedy. Our distrct comissioner Sven
Gerling informed our kids just before we wanted to leave. We formed a big
circle and hold on for a minute. During these moments we all were very
mindful but also very lightened that _we_ had finished our camp lucky
without serious accidents.
Please hold on for a minute...
