Sorry bob and others, The AT is 2,135 miles from Mt. Katahdin in Maine.
to Springer Mountain in Georgia. It basically follows the crest of the
Applaciation Mountains. There are 10 guide books covering various sections
of the trail. These are available from the Appalachian Trail Conference,
or any good backpacking store (in the East anyway).
