There are gazillions of trails through the Appalachian Mountains, but I feel you must be thinking of the Appalachian Trail. 2,150+ miles from Springer, Georgia to Mt. Katahdin, Maine.

They can tell you all about the trail, sell you maps and guidebooks, etc.
Our troop, Troop 46, Radford, Virginia has the good fortune to live within easy
driving distance of the trail in southwest Virginia. It forms a major part of
our hiking, camping, and backpacking activity. The scouts love it!
