another visit with uniforming

I try not to "flame" on any list or forum, but I find the people
who equate uniform pants with gang colors or athletic uniforms to
be very narrow in their view. In my group we are not talking about
poor families or kids who will join gangs, we have fairly affluent
families and kids who are pretty solid at home and school. Athletic
uniforms are necessary, when they must be purchased, because they
sustain a lot of damage during play. I agree with the post that
said the kids are active and their uniforms take a beating. Do we
want the kids to show up in tattered uniforms? Or are kids in neat
"school jeans" and shirts better?

I said before, I wear a full uniform and encourage others to do so.
I just find it untenable to make this a requirement for the kids to
participate. Some "full uniform" advocates drift dangerously close
to "my way or the highway" for me.

Again, I think the scout in the uniform is more important than the
uniform on the scout.
