Hello, fellow scouters!
As suggested in the guidelines, I am writing to introduce myself. My name
is Cheryl Dugas, and I am an assistant scoutmaster with Troop 107 in
Naperville, Illinois -- west of Chicago, in the Three Fires Council. I
joined Troop 107 three years ago with my older son, Eric, who is now a Life
scout awaiting approval on his Eagle project. My younger son, Paul, joined
us last year. He has just completed his requirements for Star.
As an assistant scoutmaster, I concentrate my efforts mainly on the
incoming scouts in our transition patrols. I have developed guidelines for
the instructors and guides who work with these boys, and I help to
acclimate the incoming adult leaders. I also have a great time camping and
at summer camp. I think teenagers are wonderful people!
As a merit badge counselor, I push Reading Merit Badge -- because it is my
favorite, and because I feel it is a good merit badge for scouts who are
starting out.
I am the unofficial Service Projects coordinator. I have set up work days
at the local food pantry, and the troop has helped at functions at the
Naper Settlement Museum Village (local living history museum) because of my
family's involvement there.
Because we have no Chaplain right now, I also serve in that role. I
usually hold a short (10 minute) service on Sunday mornings on our
campouts. I am always on the lookout for (interfaith) materials which I
can use -- prayers, songs, readings.
Well, I guess that's me in a nutshell. I look forward to meeting some of you.
Yours in Scouting,
Cheryl Dugas
