Re: Are you afraid?

I'm afraid you are missing my point. I do not deny that there are many
very frightening risks associated with productively living in today's
society, but we make a defacto choice to take these risks, every day.
I wonder how many of the people who are considering dropping from
scouting because of the risks involved have also considered not driving
their car. Are not the risks associated with driving astronomicaly
more dangerous and likely to occur than a law suit or character
assasination associated with being a volunteer leader? Yet I do not
hear any of you sugesting that we should stop driving cars. It appears
to me to be a question of priorities. I guess convenience and comfort
is worth mortaging the future for, but that is not what I learned in
Scouts.

We should be aware of risks. We should take action to minimize risks
but not at the expense of our ideals. Followinhe youth protection
guidelines is an excellent example.
