Hello from New Orleans Again,
I have been approached (and done some approaching of my own) about what needs
to be done for my department at the University of New Orleans to charter an
Explorer Post. We are considering a combination professional/high adventure
post. Being a geology department, we feel that using high adventure skills
(backpacking, canoeing, rock climbing, etc.) in an environment where the Post
members are allowed to assist in current geologic research should make for a
successful post. There are many high schools in New Orleans, public, private
and parochial, that we can draw members from. There are many schools which
teach Earth Science as an elective and a post should be able to spur
cooperation between thee universities, the schools and the local petrochemical
industry.
I would like some coments and suggestions on how I should proceed. I am just
an undergrad student, but have the respect of the entire department faculty.
I do not see myself as one of the advisors, but maybe a member of the
committee and an advisor to the COR and Chief Advisor.
Yours in Scouting
