AR>I disagree. When I lived in the US I was made to recite the Pledge
AR>of Allegiance every morning, and to this day I feel quite angry about
AR>it. I was only about 8 and probably didn't tell my parents how
AR>strongly I felt as my mother was quite surprised when the subject
AR>came up recently.
I'm with Ann on this and with Mike Walton on the larger issue. A Scout
(or a human) should be respectful of the flags and other trappings of
nations, churchs, etc. When I lived in England I offered my attention
to the Union Jack during flag ceremonies, but the salutes and pledges
were for the natives there, just as ours are for us here.
I guess you can't hurt anything by showing excess respect, but it should
never be expected.
