Anne makes a good point which is not inconsistent with mine.
As a British Citizen I do <not> join in the Pledge of Allegiance. I do
face the flag and salute.
It is unacceptable to expect non-citizens of the US to recite the pledge,
period. For some nationalities it could amount to a treasonable offence
to pledge allegiance to another nation !
