I like this idea even better when broken down into smaller topics and
presented separately so that both individuals and units can chose to
improve on their strengths or overcome their deficits according to their
own priorities. If I have relative strengths in discipline, personal
counseling and motivation, but weaknesses in ceremonies, crafts, and
outdoor skills, I might want to take those three sessions, if however my
assistant has a real talent for crafts, then I might want to focus on
ceremonies alone and have my assistant take the outdoor skills session,
then my assistant and I can both learn from each other and cover for each
other. Of course we would rather take them all, given unlimited time, but
it would be nice to be able to get the most needed training without
having to be able to find a four hour block of time to do it too.
It would be nice to see the Roundtables being utilized more consistently
also. I have heard about great RTs, but have yet to see one. It is one of
the things I want to try to improve in my district, but I have to get my
unit running with enough parent involvement that I don't feel like I need
to be in two places at once before I try actually being in two places at
once.
