Alternatives to Philmont

Ahhh. The Pecos trek. I just LOVE the Hamilton mesa. It was my first
backpacking trip into mountains. I ate raw trout from this narrow stream
they called the head of the Pecos river. It is just gorgeous. My
crew (721-T-3) heads out for Philmont on (you guessed it) 7/21. We
are doing Comanche Peak, Tooth Ridge as dry camps, Black Mountain for
mountaineering/black power, Miner's Park, etc. I haven't been since
1969. How has it changed?
