Re: Alternatives to Philmont

For those who are looking for alternatives to Philmont, the Great
Southwest Council offers a Pecos Wilderness trek as part of the
program at Camp Frank Rand.

The Pecos trek is a week long backpacking expedition in the Sangre de
Cristo Mountains of New Mexico - about 90 miles southeast of
Philmont. The Pecos Wilderness is absolutely gorgeous. Program
activities are pretty much left up to the individual parties, as is
the route and itinerary. Cost this summer is $110. This part of the
camp program is always underutilized.
If you want more information the Council phone number is 505-345-8603.
