An Introduction

Buddy Givens (buddyvette@AOL.COM)
Tue, 3 May 1994 14:10:08 EDT

After reading all the postings for a while, I finally decided that it was
a good time to introduce myself. My name is Buddy Givens and I live in
Highland Village, Texas. I am presently ASM for Troop 123 and Chartered Org.
Rep. for Pack 298. I was involved with Pack 298 as a Den Leader 90-92,
Webelos Leader 92-94 (Feb.) and Comm. Chairman 91-94. My wife Peggi was my
co-leader 90-94. My son Jeff earned his Arrow of Light in December and
bridged to the troop along with 15 other boys from the pack in February. He
had his Board of Review last night for Tenderfoot. Peggi has moved over to
the Girl Scout world as a leader for my daughter Korri's Daisy troop.
I am also a member-at-large of the Tonkawa District Committee, having served
as membership chairman 91-92, and am currently Scout-O-Rama ticket sales
chairman. If any of you Longhorn Scouters remember the recruiting theme from
the fall of 92 ("Scouting - Now More Than Ever") - I was the author of that
theme. I was privileged to receive the Award of Merit in 1993.
Jeff and I are headed to Philmont in June. I will attend the "Working with
Junior Leaders" session while he heads for the hills in the Boy Scout
program. This is our second trip, having gone in 92. We got the patch
collecting bug there and have developed a pretty good CSP collection so far.
I suppose if we get into OA we'll start that, too.
I was a Cub and Boy Scout in my youth (56-63) and barely made it to Life
before the perfume, petroleum and pigskin got me. I was in a big, active
troop but without good adult leadership (improbable but true). At least that
experience has provided me with a bad example to not follow. I hope to add a
few comments as we go along; since I am a CPA, the last few months haven't
afforded much of an opportunity to do much more than read.
I hope to see any of you Longhorn Scouters this weekend at Scout-O-Rama,
and hello to those of you I've "met" already through AOL (Pat S., Mike W.,
Norm Mac.) Sorry to miss the Circle 10 Scout Show - it was better when the
two councils didn't have them the same day. Keep on Scouting!!!
