Many customs change due to logic (white gloves for ladies in the

Men???? Women historically could keep their hats on inside, but
that was to protect hairdos, keep hatpins etc from being lost,
and it took so long to fix! :) Todays female scouts should also
remove their hats when the men do, unless in a Catholic church.

And to show that, they wear Yamakas (I KNOW that is sp wrong!), not
baseball caps. Only time I could see would be if a cancer victim
wished to keep his cap on, but then, he'd be a "sore thumb" for that.

How about non-scout (Malcolm X, Bulls,Cowboys) T-shirts on campouts?
I thought the rule was Scout shirt/pants w/ Sc. belt if possible, if not:
dark colored pants/blue jeans were acceptable. If non-scout items are
allowed on other parts of the body (excluding socks/shoes), how can we really
fuss about hats? I tell the cubs and my girls to not mix & match their
scout and civilian clothes outside of their troop/den meeting because it looks
sloppy and detracts from the purpose of wearing the uniform: which is
to be identified as a scout. My girls are allowed to wear their pin on their
nice civvies if they do not have a full uniform. This identifies them just
as well, and the GSUSA don't require the purchase of a uniform. Since BSA
does, then they should wear it correctly. (Can you tell I used to be an MP?)
