When I was young, we had a sea scout ship. You had to be 14 to be a member.
Then one day it was called a sea explorer post. I remember their ceremonial
presentations at the scout show (we had an arena type event for many years
before we went to a booth type event). I looked forward to being a member of
"Ship 13" but by the time I was old enough, they were no longer operational.
I equate sea scouts with sea explorers, just in a different time period.

Jim,
For what it's worth, the terms "Sea Scouts" and "Sea
Explorers" are used interchangibly in many parts of the country.
I use whichever term the people I'm talking to are most
comfortable with.
I'm not sure about Stillwater, but there about a dozen Sea
Explorer Ships in Oklahoma. It sticks in my mind that Shawnee
has about five. (Sigh ... my memory won't let me dredge up more
info on Oklahoma Sea Scouting. I did have one Ship Skipper on my
Jamboree staff last year.)
Smooth Sailing!
