Re: BOR - Life

Chris,

Technically, your husband as an Assistant Scoutmaster should not be sitting
on boards of review (we know, reality often dictates different). The
Committee and
Committee members should be doing the Board of review for Tenderfoot
through Life (Eagle Board make up vary from council to council).

One of the EagleTip files (Two, I think) has some recommendations about
types of questions to ask at boards of review which came out of an old
Troop Committee Handbook. Current books have some information on boards of
review as well, but not as much on the questions.

You need to send a Get Command to the LISTSERV (not the SCOUTS-L address)
to get the EagleTip files. Sorry, I do not have the execate syntax here at
work.

Why should your husband, as an Assistant Scoutmaster not sit on the Boards
of Review? Well, some might say it is because the Troop committee is
suppose to do the boards of review and the Scoutmasters and Assistants are not
members of the committee. The real reason has to do with the outcome of
the Board of review. If the Board turns the young man down for the rank
advancement, who does he turn to. . . his Scoutmaster or an Assistant. If
that person is on the board of reivew which just turned him down, how
comfortable do you think that young man will be getting assistance from
this SCM or Asst?
