Re: Lume Disease Information for Scouters

Steve posted a note on Lyme disease. I think it would be well for Scouters to
note that generally on Scouting activities (with the possible exception of
summer camp depending on the council's insurance policy) the standard accident
policy does not cover bacterial or fungal infections. This includes Lyme disease
and - for us midwesterners in particular - histoplasmosis. We had an infection
of histoplasmosis as a result of a camporee; the standard insurance policy
would
not cover the problem (I'll not get into the gorey details).Our district now
purchases a separate policy for each district sponsored event to cover such
contingencies. Costs about $1.05 per person. It's worth it if you have been
named in a law suit, believe me.
