Re: Aids and youth

Rachel Haigh (R.H.HAIGH@BHAM.AC.UK)

Having been involved in a series of camps for kids from the rough parts of Lond
on, many of whom have been sexualy abused, or the kids of drug useds, or users
themselves, I have become much more aware of the need for leaders to be aware,
and happy to talk about AIDS. Carry a pair of disposable gloves, get the kid t
o do as much as possible to stop the flow of blood, while you put the goves on.
When the kid asks why you wear them, explain - not that you think that THEY pe
rsonally may have AIDS, but that you have got in practice of always protecting
yourself. After a day at camp my own hands are never in the most hygenic state
to be dealling with cuts etc anyway...
