"Scouts council to offer AIDS education"

Rick Clements (rickcl@POGO.WV.TEK.COM)
Fri, 28 Jan 1994 09:42:32 PST

From: Kevin Torres <torres@ESMLSUN.GATECH.EDU>

}The following is copied w/o permission
}from The Associated Press, Marietta Daily Journal 1-28-94

}ATLANTA- The Norwest Georgia Girl Scout Council will
}use a $50,000 grant from Levi Strauss & Co. to teach girls
}ages 5 to 17 how to protect themselves from HIV, the virus
}that causes AIDS.

}Have the GSUSA sold their soul?
}Is this the purpose of the GSUSA?

From what you posted, it seams to be focused at "If you do this, here's
what can happen" and "you need to be as safe as possible if you choose
to do this".

}Is this "needs of the girls"?

Unfortunately, in too many cases, yes.

}Do you want your 5 year old girl learning about condom use?

Girl Scouts have girls from 1st grade to 12th grade. I assume, there
will be a difference in the program between Brownies and Seniors.

}What ever hapend to camping, cooking, and hiking?

There is more to Boy Scouts than camping, cooking, and hiking. There
is more to Girl Scouts than camping, cooking, and hiking too.

}How about $50,000 for a new Girl Scout reservation?

They have a company who is willing to give them money for AID education.
That company isn't willing to give them money for a Scout reservation.
They have to keep trying to find someone who will fund it.
