Welcome to Explorer-Net!
Explorer-Net is an open discussion group for members of
Explorer Posts and Venture Units worldwide (and open as well to any other interested
persons or groups).
Here are some ideas that we'd like you to keep in mind as
you learn about and use ExplorerNet:
Idea #1 - The more, the merrier!
Everyone can help in tracking down other Explorer and
Venture units and inviting them to join us. If there are other posts in your council
contact them. Give a copy of this message to your district Exploring chairman and
Exploring professional and ask them to spread the word. There are lots of posts out there
that need to know about this. It's our job to find them.
Idea #2 - Get the adults out of the road!
Most of the names on the list so far are adult advisors.
Now, don't get us wrong, advisors are OK people (;-)). But, Exploring and Venturing are
for the Explorers and Venturers. Let's get the members on line! This is their show. Let
them lead the way.
Idea #3 - Let's get to know each other!
It would be nice if each person or unit represented on the
list would introduce themselves to the rest of us. Tell us about who you are, what you
like to do. What great activities has your unit done? What great things are you planning?
Have you discovered any neat Web sites? Tell everyone about them.
Do you have questions or problems? Can't get that software
package installed? Don't know where to go to get more information on virtual reality? Post
your questions. Someone here can help out.
Idea #4 - Let's help each other out!
If you have ideas, post them. With a little imagination, we
can do great things as a group that none of us could accomplish individually. Moreover, we
can provide some lasting benefits for the Exploring and Venture programs that will last
long after we've left the scene. I've been overwhelmed by the numerous offers of
assistance and ideas provided so far by others.
Idea #5 - Let's not keep this a secret!
Those of you who have access to other Scouting forums, post
invitations for others to join us. Or, cross post some of our message traffic so others
may benefit from our discussions. There are scouting forums on America OnLine, CompuServe,
SCOUTS-L, UseNet (rec.scouting) and FidoNet.
And, probably, several others I'm not aware of. Spread the
word! Advertise and promote this group. Invite others to join.
Well, there are some ideas to get your imagination flowing.
But before closing, let's go over a few administrative details and rules.
How to Use Explorer-Net
To use the Explorer-Net list server, send your e-mail
correspondence to:
explorer-net@scouter.com
All messages from current subscribers sent to this address

All requests should be addressed to listproc@scouter.com.
Note: Explorer-Net messages are also stored on-line for
anyone to view or search. See the Home Page at /Archives/explorer-net/.
Rules:
(1) In order to protect everyone's privacy and to be
consistent with the BSA's Youth Protection policies, let's not send personal information
about *youth* *members* that could be broadcast to everyone. This would include things
like *home* addresses, *home* telephone numbers, credit card numbers, etc. If it's
necessary to exchange this kind of information, send an email message directly to the
individual you want to have it, *not* to the mail list server.
(2) If you have something to offer, please post it to the
entire group. Don't take your discussions "off-line" with private email (unless,
of course, it is truly a private discussion). Keep all your message traffic on the
listserver. In this way, everyone can benefit from your ideas and experience and, everyone
will be able to jump in and contribute.
Thanks for subscribing and once again, Welcome to Explorer-Net!
