Hi there all,
Just wanted to add a note on how our Venturer Unit fundraises.
We have an active Group, and each Saturday there is a Sausage
Sizzle at the local shops for which there is a roster between
the Joeys, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. A good day will earn
us $200. We share the money out by allocating half to the
unit account, and the other half is split up proportionally
between the people who worked on it. If there is a major
activity coming up, then we allocate all of the funds to be
split between the workers.
If they are keen to earn more money, there are always
chocolates they can sell, although we are always looking for
new ideas. We had a Wine Tasting one night (Leaders and
Parents only!!) where we earned 18% of all sales which was
good. Talk to a local winery or bottle shop - it's all for a
good cause.
The paperwork needs to be kept on top of, as we don't just
hand the money over to the Venturers (or Leaders for that
matter!). It is banked in the Unit account, and a detailed
list is kept in our Treasurer's book to list all the in's and
out's for each person. We also only allow the funds to be
used for Scouting purposes, but this can be anything from
buying gear, to paying for an activity.
We have found it to work Extremely well... Especially for
those families who are a little hard pressed for cash. Our
theory is "nothing is impossible".
Besides, being out in the public eye and selling is very good
PR, especially if they are enjoying themselves.
