Re: Att: Dave

Not sure what "Dave" you are addressing, but what the heck, I'll answer :-)

Explorer's are youth (boys and/or girls) 14 - 21 years old that are in a
"Career oriented" program of the BSA called Exploring. Typically, it
concentrates on one area, ie: High Adventure, Emergency Services like Police or
Fire units, or, as in my case, Computers. There are many types of Exploring
Units, each with their own emphasis. They are (supposed to be) run by the Youth
with the adults only acting as mentors and advisors... but in truth, it takes
awhile to get to that point with the kids. It's a great way to help "focus"
their energies toward their career goals though, and helps with their
leadership skills. In my district, we have 1 Police, 2 Fire, 1 Emergency, 1
High Adventure, and 1 Computer Explorer Posts.

During our recent floods here in central California, the Emergency Explorer
Post helped man the Red Cross Stations, the Fire and Police Units were involved
as well.

Tell me what your Venturer Unit does.
