Debi, et al,
You may also want to check out the Koshare Indian Dancers. They are Troop
232 and Explorer Post 2230 at La Junta, Colorado, and have long been
acknowledged as one of the foremost authorities on Native American Indian
Dance and culture.
They were founded in 1933
by J.F. "Buck" Burshears, and have been continuously in existence since
then. The Koshare Indian Museum and Kiva houses a 60 foot diameter Kiva
and a Museum with Native American Art and artificacts valued
conservatively in the $millions. Each summer they have about three shows
per week, and host Scouts and Explorers en route to or from Philmont. In
the winter they have a week of "winter ceremonials" which are very well
done. This year, they hosted the Kwahadi dancers in a joint show in
December.
In August they do a "long trip" which usually alternates between the East
Coast, the Southwest, and the Northwest, to do presentations on the road
and visit National historical areas, parks, Native American friends and
Scouting organizations.
The Koshares hold the National Record for the most Eagle Scouts in a unit,
which now is in excess of 560, since their founding.
The Koshares have a web page:
