I would like to introduce myself. Not knowing who is on this list,
I just subscribed to this list this morning, and I reviewed the membership
just a minute ago. I am familiar with a few of you through some of the
other Scouting list's I belong to.
My wife and I are the proud parents of 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls. My
sons are 15 (Life ), 13 (Star), and 6 (Tiger). My daughters are 10 ( Junior GS)
and 4 (waiting for Daisy's next year). I went through the Cub Scout ranks in the
60's making WeBeLoS in '66. I joined Boy Scouts, but quit before ever accomplishing
any rank. I have been active in as a Scouter for 3 years now (I guess 4 if you count
Tiger partner with my oldest son 9 years ago).
I am Troop Committee Chair for my sons Troop, and am Tiger Cub Group Coach
for my youngest sons Pack. My primary job is as Unit Commissioner, and I am
a member of the Cub And Boy Scout Roundtable staffs. I also serve as a member
of the Boy Scout and Cub Scout Training Teams, and am a Member of the District
Committee.
I attended Boy Scout leader Wood Badge [SR-119] in June '95 (used to be a Bob
White), and Cub Scout Trainer Wood Badge [W-CS-38] in May '96 (used to be an
Eagle). I completed my BS WB ticket in May, and received my Beads in Oct. I hope
to complete my Cub Trainer tickets by Feb. '97 and would like to have my bead
ceremony in March '97.
I am scheduled to serve as Commissary Asst. for Subcamp 19 at the Jamboree next
year. My sons and I really enjoy camping, but the Troop we are affliated with don't
give us the challenge we are looking for. They attend summer camp every year, and
have 8 campouts per year. Of these there are 2, possibily 3 that are 2 night campouts,
all the others are 1 night events. We normally camp within 1 hr from home, leaving
Sat. AM around 8 and returning between 10-11 AM Sun.
I am seriously considering trying to start up an Explorer Post to give an alternate
camping program to any kids that want more than what they are getting. Since my
second son will be turning 14 in March, I will probably try to work around this time
schedule.
I really know little about the Explorer program. Our district has 13 post, of which
most are either Fire, Law Enforcement, or Veterinarian based. I am looking forward
to learning much new information from this list, and gathering a new base of resources
for my many neophite questions.
