Hi All,
I'm Chris Marsey. I thought that I should post some background info on
myself. I encourage others to do likewise.
I'm currently living in Co. Springs for the past couple months. Here I've
become an assistant varsity coach and it looks like probably the Coach in a
few weeks.
Previously I lived in Huntsville, Alabama for about 4 to 5 years.
I got involved with the NSS (National Speleological Society) caving
almost upon arrival. I spent a couple years at first as a Varsity Team
Coach and then the rest as an Explorer Advisor. I was also the Advancement
Chairman for a Troop pretty much the whole time there.
Previous to Huntsville I lived in the pan handle of Florida and held the
position of a Scoutmaster for a couple or so years. Previous to Florida,
I was an ASM in various troops since getting involved as an adult.
I originally became active with scouts as a leader in 86 in No. California,
where I'm from. I was a Cub and Webelo but never went into scouts as
a youth.
I've had a wealth of scout training but have some how never made it to
Philmont or Woodbadge.
In my spare, spare time, I work on the US Scouting Service Project which
I started with my brother-in-law almost 2 years ago. We now have many fine
scouters out there helping out (and always looking for more). I've also
teamed up with the Scouter's Journal Magazine and am working with them
to even further the support of scouting on the internet.
I'm a programmer (rather Software & Systems Engineer) and am not currently
affiliated with the military although I have been in the Air Force
(4yrs) in the past.
I love working with youth and being in the outdoors. I'm looking forward
to snow camping and (if I can overcome the fear) snow skiing. I've only
broken a bone once (and that was enough) and all I was doing was walking
(I really wouldn't call it hiking at the time) thru the woods with
some younger scouts on a campout. I'll always remember that part of TN and
think twice when leaders talk about 'staging' a first aid drill. (you might
get what you're thinking about).
I have a family of 5 with a 6yr old son, 2yr old daughter and 2 mo. old son.
And I can't wait till my sons get into scouts. (I'm also worried about
the thought of making commitments to Girl Scouts - not like I have a lot
of spare time laying around!)
S,
Chris Marsey
